Polar Fleece

Plain polar fleece in solid colours — the dependable warm one, and quite possibly the friendliest fabric in the entire shop. Light for its warmth, soft both sides, machine-washable without complaint, and famously fray-free: cut it and the edge simply… stays.

That no-fray magic is why polar fleece is the classic first-project fabric — blankets, scarves, snoods, hats and pet beds need no seam finishing and no hemming; even the edges can be left honestly raw or trimmed decoratively. It's also the budget hero for linings, warm layers and costume bases.

Keep the iron away (heat flattens and can melt the pile — fleece barely creases anyway), use a longer stitch, and let a beginner loose on it with total confidence. Solid colours here; prints live next door.
