Some knowledge you can't get from a five-minute video: the kind that sits open on the worktable, flour-dusted with chalk, while you work through a technique for the third time. Our bookshelf is short and chosen — guides on dressmaking, quilting, embroidery and fabric know-how that we'd actually hand to a customer who asked.
A good sewing book earns its shelf space three ways: it teaches sequences too detailed to memorise, it answers the question you didn't know to ask, and it turns waiting-for-fabric-to-arrive into productive plotting. They also solve the perennial problem of what to give a maker who already has everything — nobody has every book.
