Silky satin is the fluid one — lighter than duchess, softer than plain satin, with a liquid drape that slips and shimmers as it moves. It's the satin of slip dresses, camisoles, flowing evening skirts, luxurious pyjamas and the bias-cut styles that made satin famous.

Where duchess stands, silky satin pours — choose it whenever movement is the design: garments that skim the body and catch light with every step. It also makes linings that feel indulgent against the skin.

Its fluidity asks for calm hands: cut it flat without letting it hang, fine sharp needle, pins in the seam allowances, and consider tissue paper under seams if it wants to wander. French seams finish it beautifully. Sample first — liquid shine shifts colour with the light.
